There is this faint sense of a very dark chocolate that drifts through at times, so this stuff is not without occasional subtleties. I plan to keep several tins on hand. It has a pleasant aftertaste. It sounds awful, but it wasn't. If you like latakia, this is the one for you. I'm also getting a little cocoa and berry flavors. It lacks that hint of perique spice that Nightcap has, but is darker and more smokey. It is a nic e slow burning smoke and my first experience with cakes. This blend is a perfect example of how tobacco mixtures can be full flavored but still fall flat due to lack of nuance & slight to moderate shifts in complexity. The room note is very strong. with a medium level of latakia hit the spot for me. I opened the bag and was greeted by a very rich, heavy pleasant smoky flavor that was leading this charge of flavors. The latakia overwhelms the other "trace" ingredients. I can't detect other content in it, than latakia and some latakia blended with a pinch of latakia. Only Latakia taste. It really is. There is a relatively low nicotine content in this blend. Definately in my top 10. The smoke is smooth and Creamy with a little roughness now and then. I don't have any problem smoking this. Just yesterday I had some Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels, and I immediately thought of those when I emblazoned a bowl of Pirate Kake for the first time (Buttery smooth caramels, drenched in Belgian dark chocolate, then sprinkled with crunchy rock salt from the Dead Sea). TONS of smoky spicy and an after taste that makes you think you just the bark off a whole smoked pork shoulder. I just purchased the 8oz tin.. it really is that good. I found several blend that match my taste bud, but i keep going back to PK when i craving latakia. If I had a preference I would add a stoved Virginia to this blend to round it out and add richness to it. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires some relights.
